I visited Efie's recently, best couscous in town. Thanks for the explanation about why it is usually eaten on Tuesday and Friday. Or Yehuda is one of my favorite places to eat.

Thanks for the address. I'll check it out...eventually. We have a brand new two week old in the house so it might be some time before I head over to Or Yehuda. :(

Ann: It *was* delish! :) Thanks to Ya Rayi for the detailed couscous preparation instructions and the excellent spice mixture. Be forewarned, though, it takes a while to prepare. We had dinner a little late that night. Thanks for the link to John B's app! Sounds intriguing. I shall have to d/l it and try it out.

Sophie: Effie makes a mean mafrum, and a pretty good shakshuka too. I think I'll have to take you to Effie's when I come for a visit :).

harry: Yeah, isn't that interesting? I wish I could remember where I got that info... Effie's is in the old industrial zone in Or Yehuda. How silly of me to forget to list the address. Here it is:

Couscous Mafroum (That's the official name, but everyone calls it Effie's)
12 Yehezkel Kazaz St.
Or Yehuda, Israel

I've always wondered what's up with the cous cous only on Tuesday or Wednesday thing...I live in Modi'in, but am more or less a Yerushalmi so that makes me a kube man, but I'd love to know where I can try Effie's cous cous (in Tel Aviv I presume). Let me know and I'll report back!

I *love* "real" couscous... I admit, though, that I most often make the quick and dirty variety. Your recipe is inspiring me to make the real thing next time -- it sounds delish!

I was checking in on John B's (from "the list") entry into this My Dream Mac App contest he was in a while ago, and although he got knocked out, there's a guy with a recipe builder/manager app that looks really cool: http://mydreamapp.com/contestants/view/michaelyuan/

I like the timers for prep time and cook time -- what a great idea! Perfect for food writers/bloggers :)
